Ball nuts from isel are precise and abrasion-resistant drives of high quality but competitively priced.

The rotary motion is most effective and almost frictionless, converting into linear movement with a repetitive accuracy of less than 0.01 mm (related to a length of 300 mm).

The ball screw drives consist of hardened and ground ball screws diameter 16 mm and a pitch of 5mm as well as hardened and grounded ball screw nuts. These are multiple ball re-circulating.

The quality is assured in accordance to the international standards where measurements like ball screw accuracy, pitch accuracy, etc. are done in air-conditioned QA areas at +20° C using a 3D measuring machine.

Right now, rather than investing huge sums of money on new plant or machines, many companies are looking to upgrade and maintain existing equipment to lengthen their operational lives and improve reliability.

Micromech Systems Ltd can help with your upgrades to old or obsolete servo and stepper motors, linear actuators, gearboxes, control systems, PLC’s and HMI’s. In many cases this work will lead to improved performance as well as extending the operational life of machines.

Below is a recent project, which is typical of the kind of upgrades we undertake:

An electric heater manufacturer had a servo-driven copper tube-cutting machine. The main Servo drive that fed the pipes into the machine was obsolete and giving intermittent problems.

A small Mitsubishi PLC controlled the over-all machine, but neither the programme nor the wiring was documented. Micromech Systems Ltd (MSL) replaced the drive and PLC with a single intelligent servo drive with IEC61131 programming and digital I/O to replace the PLC pneumatic control functions. A new HMI screen was fitted, with the controls laid out in the same way as the original PLC system, making adoption of the new system seamless to the machine operators.

Machine Upgrade

MSL initially visited the customer and ran through the machines operations and functions to produce a specification. The new control system was then designed, built, programmed and tested at Micromech, prior to being installed and commissioned at the customer’s site. An operation manual and electrical drawings were also supplied to help with future maintenance of the machine.

Delta Tau has developed the new and revolutionary Turbo PMAC Clipper 4 axis controller which has a one board control solution with I/O and Ethernet, plus Turbo PC/104 with Acc-2P and now comes with a 30% cost reduction.

Turbo PMAC ClipperThrough careful design and manufacturing for optimisation Delta Tau has brought the power of the world leading Turbo PMAC controller family to cost-sensitive applications that could never afford this level of performance before. The Clipper include many features such as the Turbo PMAC CPU with Optional DPRAM and USB, Ethernet and RS-232 Communications (optional Ethernet Modbus).

There are 4 channels axis-interface circuitry, each including 12-bit +10V analogue output, pulse-&-direction digital outputs, 3-channel differential/single-ended encoder input, 5 input flags, 2 output flags and UVW TTL-level ‘hall’ inputs. In addition the Clipper has 32 general-purpose TTL-level I/O points, ‘handwheel’ port with 2 each:
quadrature encoder inputs and pulse (PFM or PWM) output pairs. As options there are 2 channels 12-bit A/D converters, 1 12-bit D/A converter and thumbwheel port.

This fantastic new product has many special features for embedded applications, plus Breakout Board for easy machine integration. The Turbo PMAC Clipper also has optically isolated I/O, indicator LEDs on all I/O and rugged Molex connectors for easy integration.

The amplifier base specifications accommodates brushless motor types either AC or DC, DC brushed or stepper in any mix. The DC Bus (Input) Voltage is 12VDC to 60 VDC, output current is 5A continuous, 15A peak (1 sec) and the PWM frequency is 2KHz to 15 KHz. The status display is 7 segment and the Clipper has protection for voltage (over/under), over temperature, short circuit, and over current.

    From our colleagues in America we have received this story of problem solving for the Equipois zeroG® arm. This is a patented technology that allows heavy tools, parts and other payloads to be manoeuvred as if weightless, but with total freedom of motion.

    Spyraflo Bearings

    This new technology protects a wide cross-section of workers from the destructive force of gravity thereby reducing workplace injuries and increasing productivity. The zeroG® arm is a true extension of the users own arm, allowing workers to reach wherever their arm needs to go but with a fraction of the effort usually required. This allows workers to use their own fine motor skills so enabling greater precision and quality.

    Key to the smooth operation and freedom of motion is the bearing selection for the multiple articulating sections and when researching their various bearing options for a new family of arms their design engineers identified some key requirements:

    • An economic but quality bearing solution.
    • The bearing’s needed to be a secure mounting into the ‘swivelling’ joint areas of each arm.
    • Keeping manufacturing costs to a minimum and eliminating any precision machining for the bearing mount.

The YASKAWA Sigma-5 Servo Drive series is now available with expanded communications and control options.

Yaskawa Sigma-5Micromech is pleased to announce there are three additional command option units for the Sigma 5 series of servo drives. The introduction of an ‘indexer command module’ turns the sigma 5 into a powerful point-to-point-positioning controller. Then there are two new ‘communication command options’ allow the Sigma 5 servo drive to be implemented into CANopen and EtherCAT communication networks. The command modules can be used for both linear and rotary servo motors from single-phase AC230V 50w to 1.5Kw and three-phase AC 400V 500W to 15KW.

The Indexer command option SGDV-OCA03A is simple and intelligent but turns the sigma-5 servo amplifier into a powerful and user friendly single axis-positioning unit ideal for operating a ballscrew or belt driven positioner as well as rotary positioning tables. Programming the indexer requires no knowledge of programming languages and simple and fast configuration is provided via the ‘SigmaWin+’ set-up software. The indexer can be controlled using either a serial network of individual digital I/O channels making integration with a PLC simple. Upto 256 programmed index moves can be defined within the module, additionally control methods such as position and speed tables can be defined. In addition upto 16 indexer modules can be connected via the serial network.

The SGDV-OCA01A EtherCAT command option provides a real-time Ethernet interface for EtherCAT communication networks and uses CANopen (CoE, CAN over EtherCAT) communications protocol. The EtherCAT CoE interface allows the implementation of a synchronised distributed drive system with high band width and good reliability. The EtherCAT network module offers a wide range of functions based on IEC61158 Type12, IEC 61800-7 CIA402 drive profile and meets all relevant international standards.

The SGDV-OCB01A plug in CANopen network module allows simple integration of the Sigma 5 servo drives into this popular and cost effective Bus network. The module is compatible with the CANopen profiles DS-301 and DSP-402, V2.0. It supports the following modes: Profile Position Mode, Homing Mode, Profile Velocity Mode, Profile Torque Mode and interpolated Position Mode.

These servo drives are used extensively in packaging and assembly machines, material handling, machine tool and robotics, these new option modules allow even more machine builders to benefit from the un-paralled performance and reliability that is standard for all Yaskawa products.
