Under the Stealth brand Micromech has been appointed to be the prime distributor to offer these new, excellent Parker EMD gearheads.  Micromech as their existing major motion partner still has access to all the other gearboxes enabling support in the market for current and legacy products.

StealthWith the ability to now provide a highly competitive range it was decided to offer our customers a new experience in gearbox supply and introduce a dedicated Stealth website giving technical details, sizing software and significantly prices.

The Stealth helical planetary gearheads incorporate design enhancements to provide superior performance for the most demanding high-performance applications. The gearboxes incorporate dual angular contact bearings, providing higher radial load capacities while maintaining high input speeds.

The key Stealth construction features are: complete helical planetary design, integral ring gear cut into stainless steel housing, plasma nitrided gears, a clever patented ‘servo mount’ for error free mounting, large bearing structure for high radial and axial loads, as well as sealed for IP65 protection.
Design enhancements also include full compliment needle bearings allowing for increased service life and extended warranties. In addition to this internal design changes and optimised gearing geometry’s allow for one fill level for any orientation, resulting in shortened part number designation and simplified ordering.

They are currently offered in the most popular frame sizes of 60, 90 and 115. Universal mounting kits provide a common mounting method, which is used across multiple product lines to promote quicker deliveries and easier mounting to any servo motor.

The deliveries are very good with standard Stealth gearheads now available with only a 5 to 7 day leadtime. Then to make things even better they are now backed by a full two-year warranty on all mechanical components.
This is just the start. the whole Parker range of gearheads is being completely re-designed to bring them in line to this superb and innovative upgrade. Over the coming months we will advise customers about the latest additions.
The principal definition of stealth is the characteristic of ‘moving with extreme care and quietness’, we think engineers will be delighted at just how these gearheads meet that description.

The customers of a carton maker and case packer manufacturer requested a more economical solution requiring less floor space; they wanted the footprint to be reduced. Previous systems consisted of a complex packaging line rather than individual machines, which occupied substantially more space. Furthermore, they faced many downtime issues due to jammed cartons caused by problems with the air cylinders used in the machine.

In co-operation with Parker, the manufacturer developed a new generation of case packers, where a Scara robot performs all relevant tasks such as erecting and positioning the carton, filling, closing and palletising. They not only provided the drive and control technology but also supported the machine manufacturer with application support and integration of the robot, which is directly driven by the motion controller.

The result of these developments is one of the most compact secondary packaging machines on the market. With regard to compactness and flexibility, the machine is among the best available. The use of servo technology instead of pneumatic drives has dramatically helped minimise product jams. The increased flexibility with reference to usable format width has proven to be a positive side effect of the servo technology.

New from Micromech, the PANdrive PD-140-42-SE is the latest product from TRINAMIC Motion Control a mechatronic unit that contains a powerful motion control element in combination with a 42mm stepper motor (NEMA 17).

PANdrive PD-14-42-SEIn addition this series of motor and drive has the proprietary encoder function sensOstep TM which allows for exact positioning in the micro-step mode as well as stall detection. The hall-effect-sensor allows a resolution of 4096 impulses per turn without significant additional cost, thus opening the opportunity for additional application fields.

Programming and motion control are provided by the TMCL (TRINAMIC Motion Control Language) which is very easy to programme movements with commands for position and rotation with this protocol. Comprehensive programmes can be stored in the on-board EPROM for stand-alone-operation. The PC-based software development environment TMCL-IDE contains an optional integrated debugging programme CANopen firmware.

There is a USB port or as an option RS232, RS458, or CAN are the available serial interfaces. Small JST connectors for connecting the interfaces, voltage supply and other I/O modules are a readily configured part of the whole package.

The stepper motor is controlled as by TRINAMIC’s own powerful motion control IC’s and so the motion profiles are calculated in real time in the hardware. Parameters such as position, velocity and acceleration can be adjusted during operation.

These controls are provided throughout most of TRINAMIC’s motion control elements all part of the philosophy to provide an economic and compact design to aid the engineering processes. As the motion control is carried out in the hardware and not the CPU, there is of course a considerable saving in capacity resulting in the software being kept simple and saving on engineering and service costs.
