The PD86-1180 PANdrive™ is an 86mm stepper motor with integrated controller/driver, coolStep™ and sensOstep™ encoder

New from Micromech is a full mechatronic solution including a 86mm flange high torque motor and a motion controller/driver using the new outstanding coolStep™ technology for sensorless load dependent current control. This allows the first time an energy efficient operation of an open-loop stepper motor system. With the advanced stallGuard2™ feature the load of the motor can be detected with high resolution.

Trinamic PD86-1180The PANdrive™ can be controlled via USB, CAN, RS232 or RS485 interface and the power supply, interface and the multi purpose I/Os can be connected with JST connectors. There are step/direction/enable inputs (with optical coupling); two inputs for stop switches (24V compatible), one input for reference/homing switch (24V compatible) and one shutdown input. The nominal supply voltage range is 24V to 48V. In addition there are 4 general purpose inputs, two 24v compatible and two pen collector.

There is an incremental encoder input (ABN, single ended) and two general purpose outputs (open collector). The new spreadCycle™ chopper allows the highest smoothness, as well as high-speed operation. The internal sensOstep™ encoder can be used to detect step loss or to control the target position and the PD86-1180 comes with the PC based software development environment TMCL-IDE for the Trinamic Motion Control Language (TMCL™).

Using predefined TMCL™ high level commands like ‘move to position’ or ‘constant rotation’ a rapid and fast development of motion control applications is guaranteed. Communication traffic is kept very low since all time critical operations, e.g. ramp calculation are performed on board. The TMCL™ programme can be stored in the on board EEPROM for stand-alone operation and the firmware of the module can be updated via the serial interface. In addition as an optional CANopen firmware is available.

The motor is 5.5A, flange size 86mm (NEMA34), shaft diameter 12.7mm, length 31.75mm with D-cut.

The PD86-1180 features up to 256 times microstepping / 51200 pos./rev, memory for 2048 TMCL™ commands, stallGuard2™ sensorless high resolution motor load detection, coolStep™ load dependent current control and spreadCycle™ chopper for improved smoothness and high speed operation. Other clever and useful features include, microPlyer™ internal microstep multiplier (16 to 256 µSteps) for lower frequency on step input, integrated absolute sensOstep™ encoder (max. 256 cpr), automatic ramp generation in hardware and on the fly alteration of motion parameters position, velocity and acceleration.

These controls are provided throughout most of TRINAMIC’s motion control elements all part of the philosophy to provide an economic and compact design to aid the engineering processes. As the motion control is carried out in the hardware and not the CPU, there is of course a considerable saving in capacity resulting in the software being kept simple thereby saving on engineering and service costs.

AquaTRUE™ True Planetary Gearheads are watertight

The first gearhead on the market that is corrosion resistant and watertight for any application is now available from Micromech. Furthermore it combines high performance and wide torque capacity with features specifically designed to meet the strict requirements of applications such as food and beverage handling, packaging and dispensing.

Until now, manufacturers have been unable to use gearheads in many applications which are exposed to harsh environments because there was not a product available capable of withstanding the conditions. The AquaTRUE’s IP66/IP67 and IP69K AquaTRUEprotection (NSF/ANSI 169 Certification)
is able to handle caustic cleaning chemicals as well as high-pressure washdown. The gearhead is engineered to be placed anywhere in the application’s design, regardless of environmental factors. This eliminates the cost of additional components such as enclosures, shielding or mechanical transmissions.

This unique gearhead’s 304 stainless steel housing eliminates the concern for rust or any type of corrosion. It has a laser etched permanent product label and a smooth, round external housing that is designed without any external seams or corners where bacteria  might collect. This makes the AquaTRUE very easy to clean and a perfect fit in any washdown environment.

Frame sizes range from 60mm then 80mm, 120mm and 160mm, with a precision of 13 arc-min max and torque capacity of up to 876Nm, with ratios available from 3:1 to 10:1 in a single stage.

AquaTRUEThe AquaTRUE can be used in more than just food and beverage applications as it is also a perfect fit in applications that require sealing from high pressure water or other chemicals such as water jet cutting. The high-pressure water streams associated with water jet cutting make the sealing of the mechanical components critical. The IP66,
IP67 and IP69K protection that is standard with the AquaTRUE product line means it is completely sealed from high-pressure water or corrosive chemicals. Since all of the external components are stainless steel there is no concern for rust or corrosion.

Other applications besides food and beverage, are medical hygienic equipment, pharmaceutical, meat cutting and slicing, and of course anywhere that needs washdown.
