The Yaskawa Sigma-5 Mini, super compact servo drive is only 30 x 100 x 80mm

The well known Sigma-5 series is used by over 2,000 companies and now the line up includes the new, amazingly small Sigma-5 Mini with models ranging from 3.3W to 30W. The drives use limited space effectively, helping to reduce device footprints making them the best in class servo drives fitting for applications demanding ultra small motors, high accuracy, fast positioning and perfect multi-axes synchronisation.

The Mini drive supports DC power input as the control power is separated from the main circuit power supply, the main circuit power supply can be separately shut down when there is an alarm, therefore troubleshooting can be easily performed. The power supply voltage is for the main 24/48V DC and the control power 24V DC, power available is 3 – 30 W (11W and 30W type) and importantly the drive includes MECHATROLINK II and MECHATROLINK III interface, analogue voltage and pulse train reference. The Sigma-5 Mini drive also has a new simple tuning-less function: a new advanced auto-tuning and ‘one-parameter’ tuning.

In combination with the servomotors SGMMV there is an extensive line-up of super compact, super small capacity products. There are two flange sizes (15mm and 25mm) available, 24 VDC and 48 VDC input, plus 200 VAC input and a brake for the 25mm version. The motors have high resolution of 17-bit (131,072 pulses/revolution) and absolute value serial encoder for high-precision positioning. SERVOPACK parameter settings also enable use as an incremental type of device. They are high-speed (rated speed 3000 rpm and maximum speed 6000 rpm) so improving device take up time. The small, high performance servos can be powered by batteries thus allowing for an upgrade to clean room robots, automated guided vehicles (AGV) and other battery driven transportation systems.

This impressive range meets many customer applications and requirements being most useful for situations that require compactness or the use of DC input. From semiconductor production, chip mounting devices and inspection equipment requiring high speeds and responsiveness, to simple positioning and high-speed operation applications this system is unbeatable.

The Sigma-5 servo system fits is highly suitable in motion applications demanding ultra small motors and drives, high accuracy, fast positioning and perfect multi-axes synchronisation. There are clearly many such applications including:

Automated guidance vehicles (AGV) Semiconductor production PCB assembly SMT placement Wafer processing Feeder
Liquid crystal production Chip mounting Inspection and measuring devicesn Σ-V Mini Erosion machines-V Mini Biomedical devices Printing and packaging machines Welding equipment Dispensers, scribers, electrode TAB bonding, Winding machines, spring makers Σ-V Mini
